Guillermo Ochoa delivered his customary World Cup heroics, saving a crucial Robert Lewandowski penalty , while Luis Chávez scored one of the tournament's finest goals, a long-distance free kick against Saudi Arabia. For the first time since 1978, the streak crumbled; El Tri beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 but needed to win by more, going out on goal difference in one of the most agonising group-stage exits in their history.
