Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid stands as a powerhouse in Spanish football. Founded in 1903 and nicknamed Los Colchoneros (The Mattress Makers), Atlético has long been a club of working-class people. This spirit is evident on the pitch, where Atléti excels through unity and relentless determination.

In 2010, the club won the Europa League, its first major title of the modern era. A year later, the appointment of former player Diego Simeone as manager marked a significant turning point for the club and initiated a period of renewed success for Atlético Madrid. Continually challenging the dominance of FC Barcelona and cross-city rival Real Madrid, Atlético won La Liga in the 2013-14 and 2020-21 seasons. Under Simeone, the “derbi madrileño” against Real Madrid has also become a must-watch fixture again.

Even with Simeone’s defensive focus, Atlético Madrid has never lacked prolific strikers. Legends like Fernando Torres, Sergio Agüero, Diego Forlán, Radamel Falcao, and Antoine Griezmann all wore the Atlético Madrid shirt with red and white stripes.
