Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach, one of Germany's most popular clubs, is known for attacking football. Founded in 1900 and nicknamed “Die Fohlen” (The Foals), Borussia rose to fame in the 1970s and remains one of the most successful clubs in Germany despite coming from a relatively small town.

After modest early success, the club was best known for its rivalry with 1. FC Köln. With a new attacking style, talented players like Jupp Heynckes, Günter Netzer, and Berti Vogts, and a requisite amount of experience in the squad, Gladbach captured the Bundesliga by storm. Five Bundesliga titles between 1969-70 and 1976-77 remain one of the most dominant stretches in history and fueled a rivalry with FC Bayern Munich that continues today.

In the modern era, Gladbach moved from the famous Bökelberg stadium to the Borussia-Park in 2004. On the pitch, there have been mixed results: the club spent the 2007-08 season in the Bundesliga 2 but also qualified for the Champions League under coach Lucien Favre, only a few years after promotion, and established itself in the Bundesliga.
