Based in the outskirts of Madrid, Getafe CF was founded in 1983. After fighting their way through amateur leagues and lower tiers of Spanish football, the club got promoted to La Liga for the first time in 2004. Since then, Getafe, which plays its games in the Estadio Coliseum, has competed in La Liga for all but one year.
